Las Vegas Advisor: 2 Vegas casinos to remain closed for another year
Two Las Vegas casinos, Texas Station and Fiesta Rancho, have been granted permission to remain "nonoperational" for another year. To maintain their gaming licenses, the casinos will be required to open once per quarter over the next year, so a trailer with a dozen slot machines will have to be brought to the parking lot and opened for play for a day. Fiesta Henderson and Eastside Cannery are expected to receive the same variance.
Almost all of the restaurants and gift shops that made up the Hawaiian Marketplace on the south end of Las Vegas Strip have closed. The owner bought an adjacent parcel earmarked for a casino project.
The expansion of the Las Vegas Loop underground tunnel system to downtown has been given approval. The tunnel will be dug below Las Las Vites Boulevard all the way to Fremont Street.
The Palms has changed the phone number system to text customers to let them know when they're approaching the top of the list. The wait time for the Wednesday-night lobster buffet at the Palm is the same.
The World Series of Poker has been as good as anticipated. Several events have experienced entry totals in excess of 50% higher than last year. The Housewarming event attracted 20,081 players, the fourth-largest in WSOP history.
