Elon Musk's Las Vegas Strip Dream Inches Closer
Las Vegas has a lot of traffic when a trade show hits town. The trip from Harry Reid International Airport to the various hotels and casinos on the Las Vegas Strip is only a few miles. However, the Strip itself runs only for 4.2 miles and it's difficult to walk the whole way. Las Las has monorail system, but it is limited and not a real solution for all the traffic.
Elon Musk wants to build a tunnel system under Las Vegas. He has built a small loop under the LVCC. It costs more than $4 million a year to operate. The contract with the Las Las Vegans Convention and Visitors Authority has been shortened. The authority suggests that costs would have exceeded the $3.25 million budget if there was a normal convention season.
Musk has a vision for a tunnel system under Las Vegas. It will eventually be fully automated. The LVCC Loop system is designed for 4,400 passengers per hour with three stations. Las Las Loop is targeting 57,000 passengers an hour. Hill laid out the cost structure for the system in an earlier Review-Journal story. The next step in the process will be connecting the new Resorts World casino/hotel to the LVcc.
