Bally's Corp. has completed its purchase of the Tropicana. Fontainebleau Las Vegas has been under construction for 20 years. It's expected to open in 2023. It may be the first step on a transformative journey for the Las Las Vegas Strip property.
Bally's takes over the Tropicana. It will operate the property for 18 to 24 months before making any major changes. The property will be the company's western flagship. The previous owner, Penn Gaming, will continue to operate its casino.
Bally's name has been taken off Caesars Entertainment's Caesar's Las Vegas Strip property. The company won't rush to rebrand the Tropicana because it's too expensive. It's also too early to do a complete teardown and rebuild. Part of a redevelopment could include building a stadium for Major League Baseball's Oakland Athletics.
