Two lucky members of a Wayne County lottery club have their eyes on new homes and shiny cars after winning a $1 million Powerball prize. Meanwhile, the multi-state jackpot has reached $1 billion ahead of Monday's drawing.

The two-person Dave and Pam lottery club matched the five white balls in the Aug. 26 drawing to win the big prize: 20-22-26-28-63. They bought their winning ticket at Wild Bill’s Tobacco, located at 27424 6 Mile Road in Livonia, according to Michigan lottery officials.

“We have been friends for more than 30 years and have been playing the Lottery together for the last several years,” said the club’s representative. “I got a call from my friend, and he told me he had some big news for me and that I needed to sit down. After confirming several times that I was seated, he told me we had won $1 million on our Powerball ticket. I couldn’t help but start yelling and cheering. He had to bring the ticket over to my house to prove that he wasn’t playing a joke on me.”

The club recently visited Lottery headquarters in Lansing to claim the prize. With their winnings, they each plan to purchase a new house and a new car, they told lottery officials.

The current jackpot stands at $1.04 billion and the next drawing is just before 11 p.m. Monday. The cash option for the jackpot is $478.2 million.

If a lucky player wins Monday's Powerball jackpot, it would be the fourth-largest Powerball jackpot ever won and the ninth-largest jackpot in U.S. Lottery history.

Monday's drawing will be the 32nd drawing since the Powerball jackpot was last won on July 19. One ticket purchased in California won the $1.08 billion jackpot. The jackpot was the largest Powerball jackpot won this year and the third-largest jackpot in Powerball history.

On Saturday, another lucky player in Michigan matched the five white balls to win a $1 million Powerball prize. The winning ticket was bought at the 7-Eleven, located at 34951 Garfield Road in Fraser. The prize has not been claimed yet.

The last Michigan player to win a Powerball jackpot was Cristy Davis, of Waterford. Davis won the game’s $70 million jackpot on Feb. 12, 2020. She recently interviewed with The Detroit News on how her life completely changed in that instant and where she is three years later.

Powerball plays may be bought for $2 each at Lottery retailers across the state and online at MichiganLottery.com.

A “Power Play” option that multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times to a maximum of $2 million may be added to any Powerball play for only $1. For an additional $1 per play, Double Play may be added to a Powerball ticket, giving players a second chance to win up to $10 million in the nightly Double Play drawing.

The Powerball drawing takes place at 10:59 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. It can be watched live online at: http://www.powerball.com.

Powerball tickets are sold in 45 states, Washington D.C., U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
