Terre Haute's new casino opens April 5
Terre Haute’s casino will open April 5. The celebration begins at 10:30 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by the opening of several food and beverage offerings.
The 122-room hotel grand opening is scheduled for May 15. The location will be the 12 owned and operated by Louisville-based Churchill Downs and the first in Indiana.
Vice President and General Manager Mike Rich said the project is a long time coming and he is excited to finally open.
“The launch of Terre Haute Casino Resort extends beyond physical structure; it's about creating a vibrant and integral part of this community, and we couldn't be more thrilled to bring this exciting chapter to life,” Rich said.
The casino resort is located off east Margaret Avenue near I-70. It will feature 1,000 slot machines, 35 live table games, a poker room, and sports book.
Former mayor Duke Bennett touted the new casino and projected revenues. He said about 10 percent of its gross revenue will come back to the community.
He said the city would get about half – roughly $5 million to go to quality-of-life projects such as paving streets, installing sidewalks, and fixing up parks.
The other $5 million will go to other local development entities.
