As Kentucky-based Churchill Downs Inc. nears the planned spring opening of the new Terre Haute Casino Resort, the developer is beginning to fill the first of what is expected to be 500 new jobs.

PlayIndiana reports interviews have begun for a variety of positions at the $290 million casino and hotel, including management, security, food and beverage, and housekeeping.

Construction on the resort began in June 2022. The venue will feature a 400,000-square-foot casino building with 56,000 square feet of gaming space that includes 1,000 slots and 50 table games, as well as a 125-room hotel.

In June of this year, the casino opened up applications for its Dealer School, which is expected to begin this fall.

The casino says trainees will receive $16 per hour during the school, up to 40 hours per week. When the casino opens, dealers are guaranteed to earn at least $22 per hour, including tips. Additionally, qualified applicants will receive a $500 signing bonus.

In addition to dealer trainees, other currently open positions include security shift manager, surveillance shift manager, director of facilities, poker room manager, internal audit manager, marketing manager, slot technical manager, and financial controller.

More positions in hospitality, security, and food and beverage are expected to open in October, according to PlayIndiana.

A specific opening date for the hotel has not yet been determined, but officials say it will occur next spring.
