The developers of a casino under construction in Terre Haute have removed the royal reference in the name of the venue. Louisville-based Churchill Downs Inc. says the property will now be known as Terre Haute Casino Resort, removing the reference to “queen” from the business title.

The nearly $300 million gaming venue under development has gone by The Queen of Terre Haute Casino Resort since its inception.

CDI says the name change is intended to streamline branding efforts. While the word queen has disappeared, the letter “Q” will be a part of the property logo.

The venue will feature a 400,000-square-foot casino building with 56,000 square feet of gaming space that includes 1,000 slots and 50 table games, as well as a 125-room hotel.

Last month, CDI increased the cost of the project from the original $260 million estimate to $290 million, citing current industry costs.

Officials broke ground on the project last June and expect to open the casino in March 2024.
