Rivers Casino Portsmouth Ceremonial Groundbreaking to Be Held in December

The ceremonial event for Rivers Casino Portsmouth will be held on Tuesday, December 7. The casino will take place on 57 acres of land.
Rush Street Gaming has invested $300 million in Rivers Casino Portsmouth. The resort will be located south of I-264 between Victory Boulevard and McClean Street. It will also be adjacent to the campus of Tidewater Community College Portsmouth and will open in December. Four Virginia cities approved casino development in a local ballot referendum during the presidential elections last year.
Site planning for the construction of the Rivers Casino Portsmouth started in August. The ceremonial groundbreaking will be held in December. Virginia Lottery approved the plan in January. It is expected to generate $16 million in tax revenue each year and $200 million into the economy of Hampton and Portsmouth annually. HeadWaters Resort & Casino in Norfolk and Rivers casino in Portsmouth will benefit from the fact that Richmond doesn't have any casinos. The Norfolk casino is being planned by Jon Yarbrough and the Pamunkey Indian Tribe.
