One Casino and Resort proposal rejected Richmond voters

Voters in the central Virginia city of Richmond rejected a plan to build a casino resort. The proposed One Casino and Resort was to be situated on a 100-acre brownfield site owned by Philip Morris International.

Richmond voters rejected the One Casino and Resort proposal by a narrow margin of 51.4% to 48.6%. The developers had spent upwards of $1 million to advertise and promote the project.

Urban One's One Casino and Resort proposal rejected by Richmond voters. It wanted to partner with Peninsula Pacific Entertainment, which already owns Colonial Downs Racetrack in Kent.

Richmond voters rejected the One Casino and Resort proposal. Mayor Levar Stoney is disappointed with the decision. He promises to continue working for economic development in the city.

Virginia legislators passed a measure in April 2020 that gave five local communities the right to inaugurate Las Vegas-style gambling facilities. The measure was passed by majority votes of 65% or greater in Norfolk, Danville, Bristol and Portsmouth.
