Portsmouth breaks ground for new real-money casino in City
Rush Street Gaming of Chicago will invest $300 million to build the Rivers Casino Portsmouth on 57 acres just south of Interstate 264 between McClean Street and Victory Boulevard.
Portsmouth River Casino will be built. Norfolk, Danville, and Bristol voted in favor of it. Richmond rejected a proposed $565 project. The project is estimated to generate $200 million in economic activity annually along the Portsmouth and Hampton Roads.
The One bid was rejected in Richmond. Portsmouth and Norfolk will gain from the decision. The One project would have shut down traffic from Richmond to Northern Virginia to Norfolk and Portsmouth.
