Richmond voters rejected the construction of a $565 million casino with retail sports betting. The media group Urban One and Pacific Peninsula Entertainment spent more than $1 million in advertising to drum up support for the referendum. The project called for a casino to be built in an industrial area of the city where tobacco titan Philip Morris once operated. Virginia made it legal for five cities to have brick-and-mortar casinos last November.

Richmond residents voted against the ONE Casino + Resort project. Alfred Liggins and his family are disappointed. The project would have provided the financial resources to improve schools and roads. Urban One has been a part of the fabric of Richmond for the last 22 years.

Nashua, New Hampshire, residents voted to allow a DraftKings retail sportsbook. New York and Massachusetts have not legalized sports betting.
