Police Vow Stern Action Against Influencers Promoting Online Gambling
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police’s Director for Cyber Crime Brigadier General Adi Vivid Agustiadi Bachtiar asserted that the police would keep monitoring influencers and celebrities who promote online gambling on their social media accounts. He said some of them had been processed by law.
“The National Police, which in this case is the cyber directorate and its officers in all regional police, are actively identifying influencers who are actively promoting gambling. Several regions have even made disclosures,” Adi Vivid said in a short text to Tempo, on Sunday, August 27, 2023.
Adi Vivid explained that those who have been proven to be involved in gambling promotion have been dealt with according to the prevailing regulations, namely ITE Law Article 45 paragraph 2 Jo. Article 27 paragraph 2, which carries a penalty of six years imprisonment and a fine of Rp1 billion.
“We urge all influencers to stop promoting online gambling. There are still many subjects to promote that do not violate the law,” Adi Vivid said.
He stressed that the National Police’s Directorate General of Criminal Investigation Unit would take stern action against influencers who are still found promoting online gambling. He has also instructed the Cyber Police officers to take action in accordance with applicable regulations.
On Saturday, August 26, the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) spokesperson Natsir Kongah disclosed in a discussion forum that the circulation of money through online gambling transactions continued to increase over the years. In 2022 alone, the figure reached Rp81 trillion.
