Casinos Can Help in the Battle against Human Trafficking, Annie Sovcik Says
Busing on the Lookout's director, Annie Sovcik, has called for casino training programs in which staff will be able to recognize potential human trafficking.
According to Las Vegas Metro Police, 400 children are taken from the streets of Las Las each year and pushed into prostitution. Las Nevada is among the 17 top destinations for human trafficking in the US. Annie Sovcik thinks that casinos can act as refugee sites. She read a statement by Annika Huff, a former victim of human trafficking.
Annie Sovcik's group has a training material on how to safely contact law enforcement. She also has an anti-trafficking toolkit. Casinos are one of the most monitored places. They have protocols in place to contact the police if signs of human trafficking are spotted. People should pay attention to people who don't make eye contact and seem controlled.
