Netherlands to Pool Regulatory Efforts in Monitoring Gambling Advertisement
The Netherlands is putting an emphasis on consumer protection in its soon-to-launch gambling industry. Media watchdog and gambling regulator will exchange complaints and signals regarding potentially harmful advertisements pertaining to the gambling sector.
The Netherlands will see an influx of gambling ads before the industry goes online in October. The Media Act will come into effect on November 1. TV and radio ads featuring gambling or promoting official operators may not be aired between the hours of 6 am and 9 pm. Kansspelautoriteit and CdvM have issued strict guidelines as to what advertisement is considered acceptable.
Operators are concerned about the lack of regulation of gambling advertisement. They argue that the proposed code does not go nearly enough. They are worried that a lack in regulation could result in stricter measures. The limit of three gambling ads per commercial block is too much.
