Masks to Return in Philadelphia Casinos as COVID Spreads
Since March last year, Philadelphia has set its own rules regarding restrictions on top of statewide measures. The city’s casinos have gradually removed all of these limits over the course of 2021. Cases of the virus are now on the rise. Patrons of Philadelphia”s casino and other businesses must wear masks from 12:01 am on Thursday. Only businesses which require proof of vaccination are exempt from the rules. Rivers Casino Philadelphia and Live! Casino Philly confirm they will implement the new mandate.
Rivers Casino Philadelphia closed for 169 days during the pandemic. Live! Casino opened in February 2021. Both casinos implemented the mask mandate from 12.01am on Thursday. They also banned smoking indoors until further notice. The Clean Indoor Air Act bans indoor smoking in public across the state. Outside of Philadelphia, gamblers can still play in casinos without wearing masks.
Commercial gaming revenue in the US set a new record in second quarter of 2021. The sector is on track to beat its highest grossing year in 2019. Sports betting and iGaming helped the results. Casinos took in $11.8bn in revenue for Q2 2021, a rise of almost 10% from the previous record quarter in Q3 2019, while slot revenue increased by almost 17%.
