Las Vegas casinos where you no longer need to mask up
Nevada governor reverses a policy that requires people to wear masks in public places. The change took effect immediately. Private businesses, like casinos, and school districts may mandate masks. The state would not require them for teachers as of Friday. It does not apply to public transportation, airports, hospitals, health care clinics or places serving vulnerable populations.
Nevada Gaming Control Board lifted the face-covering rule for casinos. Some casino workers will continue to wear masks. USA TODAY has reached out to several other casinos to check for changes to mask policies. Tom Maloney, hotel manager at the Atlantis Casino in Reno, plans to continue wearing a mask. Cynthia Ruiz and Cecilia Alberto, who work at Toucan Charlie's in the casino, will not. They are scared of getting sick. The end of the mask mandate is good for customers who didn't like wearing masks and for the casinos' business.
Nevada's governor has revoked the state of emergency declaration. The state implemented its first COVID mask mandate in June 2020. It was one of six states with an intact mask requirement. Sisolak doesn't see the decision as a rejection of CDC guidance. He understands that people will have an opinion on his decision. He doesn’t want to change the current rules.
As of Tuesday, 67% of Nevada's population 5 and older had initiated vaccination against COVID-19. To date, Nevada has reported 9,270 coronavirus-related deaths after nearly two years of the pandemic.
