Springtime was good for the Las Vegas casino industry. COVID cases are resurging in Clark County. The Southern Nevada Health District recommends that everyone wear masks in public spaces. On Tuesday, the Clark Board of Commissioners voted to require employers to wear them. There is no return yet to the widespread masking mandate that was lifted in May. The commissioners plan to revisit the topic on August 17. They can't afford to have major conventions choose to go elsewhere.

May figures were impressive, June to be announced soon. Nevada’s casinos saw record monthly gaming revenue of $1.23 billion that month. The biggest COVID-related shutdowns and the public”s hesitation to return to crowded settings after reopenings were especially devastating for Nevada. By May 2021, the biggest fears were dissipated and pent-up demand for entertainment and travel was back in droves on the Las Vegas Strip and at locals casinos across the state. The state“s vaccination rates are well below the national average, with less than half the population fully vaccinated.

The Nevada Resort Association supports the recent health district and county commissioners' orders that require all employees to wear company-issued face masks. The association also supports mandatory vaccinations among employees. Complimentary face mask are available to guests at front desks, grazie desks and concierge desks.   The Venetian and other Sands properties have revised their signs posted at public entrances to share the new SNHD recommendation. They also offer free masks to their guests. It is the most effective method of ending the pandemic. Many resorts have achieved workforce vaccination rates of more than 80%.
