Louisiana House Committee Approves Casino Referendum
Louisiana House Committee on Administration of Criminal Justice approved House Bill 497. The committee wants to see a referendum for a casino license to move from Bossier City to St. Tammany Parish.
Pacific Peninsula Entertainment wants to move its casino license from Bossier City to Slidell. The DiamondJacks Casino closed in 2020. Pacific Peninsula wants the facility to be built for $250 million and bring in 2,000 jobs. Opponents are concerned about an increase in problem gambling and prostitution.
Louisiana House Committee Approves Casino Referendum. The measure must be approved by the full House and passed by two committees in the Senate and the whole Senate before it can be placed on the ballot. It is unclear if the measure will be able to move forward. The current session ends on June 10. There is still time for the two measures to be passed before the end of the session.
