P2E Plans to Reopen DiamondJacks Casino in Bossier City, Louisiana
Peninsula Pacific Entertainment wants to resume operations in Bossier City, Louisiana. The company wanted to build a waterfront hotel-casino east of New Orleans.
Voters in St. Tammany Parish rejected P2E's plans to build a $325 million hotel-casino on Lake Pontchartrain’s north shore near Slidell. P 2E transferred its casino license from the shuttered DiamondJacks riverboat casino in Bossier City to St Tamlyn Parish, but only with voter approval. Now P1 has 60 days to decide whether to reopen the property in the Bossiers City or surrender its license.
P2E is applying for a sportsbook license. 13 casinos have already been approved and are operating sportsbooks. Seven more applications are pending. A Betfred sports book is up and running inside the Paragon Casino Resort on tribal land near Marksville. Coushatta Casino resort on the tribal lands near Kinder recently opened a Sportsbook called The Rez.
There are two licensed casinos not operating in Louisiana. The Isle of Capri riverboat casino in Lake Charles was knocked out of business during a hurricane last year. Caesars Entertainment plans to re-open the Isle as a land-based resort named Horseshoe Casino LakeCharles in 2022.
Smartphone betting will be legal in 55 of 64 parishes that approved it in a statewide election last year. It will begin in the state possibly by the end of January. Sports-betting kiosks are expected to be put into bars and restaurants that serve alcohol next year under the supervision of the Louisiana Lottery Corp.
