Chicago is accepting proposals for a downtown casino. The city issued its RFP in late April. MGM Resorts said it would not be among the applicants. Mayor Lori Lightfoot is promoting her city at the National Council of Legislators from Gaming States. The goal is for the downtown Chicago casino to be open by 2025.

The Illinois-based company has a substantial stake in Rivers Casino in Des Plaines and is among the finalists to build a casino in Waukegan. Rivers has generated nearly $200 million in adjusted gross revenue this year and more than $50 million of state and local taxes.

Lightfoot promotes her office as friendly to the industry. She says the city will be a willing partner. Chicago is watching Las Vegas to help it identify best practices.
