Chicago Is Looking to Get Its Very First Casino by 2025
The Chicago administration wants to set up the first casino in the city by 2025. It has issued a request for proposals (RFP) starting April 22, 2021. The buzz is because of the huge possibilities that a casino could open up for the the Chicago.
The city of Chicago is looking for a partner to develop and operate a casino resort. The resort would include a 500-room hotel, restaurants and bars. It would be the city's first. Applicants will be allowed to make their presentations in September 2021. They will then be chosen for the project in 2022.
The Coronavirus pandemic has slowed down the development of a casino in Chicago. The city wants to get its first casino by 2025. A feasibility study showed that potential revenue could be as high as $1 billion annually. It's not just about gaming revenues, but also about food and beverage and other amenities. The operator would be allowed to set up a temporary casino for up to 2 years once they bagged the casino contract. Mayor Lightfoot wants the city to generate revenue as early as possible. He wants it to be a free game of blackjack.
The location of the casino in Chicago is still unknown. A study had listed 5 possible downtown locations. 11 companies and neighborhood groups have participated in the survey. Most of them are in favor of positioning the hotel downtown. The RFP states that the destination should enhance the urban fabric of its surrounding neighborhood.

However, it is also facing competition from other states and suburbs. In Illinois, Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed a gambling expansion plan in 2018. There will be 6 new casinos in all, besides the 10 currently in Illinois. Next month, Hard Rock Casino Northern Indian will open in Gary, 30 miles from Chicago. In Wisconsin, the governor approved plans for a new Ho-Chunk Nation casino in Beloit, 90 minutes from the city.
