Lightfoot pushes back casino application deadline as Caesars, MGM pull out
The deadline for bids to build a casino in Chicago has been extended to October 29. The deadline was previously set for August 23. Caesars Entertainment and MGM Resorts International have already said they won't build the casino. The casino was authorized as part of a massive statewide gambling expansion signed into law in 2019 by Gov. J.B. Pritzker. A state-hired consultant had previously said the tax rate was too high for any casino operator to make a profit. It was lowered to 40%. It's unclear how many proposals have been submitted.
