Shoshone-Bannock and Shoshon-Paiute tribes are preparing plans to apply for permission to bring off-reservation casinos to the area around the small community of Mountain Home. The process could take up to a decade and would need to be approved by numerous authorities before gaining a final sign-off from the state's governor.

The Shoshone-Bannock tribe is planning to build a new 500,000 sq ft gambling-friendly enterprise on a 157-acre plot of land it purchased a little over two years ago. The tribe has already built four on-reservation casinos in Idaho.

Shoshone-Bannock tribe of Eastern Idaho is holding a tribal referendum for reservation residents over the age of 21 on September 23. The successful passage of this plebiscite would purportedly allow the band to push forward with its plan to build and operate a facility to feature a pair of cinemas, an arcade and a horseracing track.

The Shoshone-Bannock tribe is not ready to release any further details regarding its casino plan. The tribe bought the site for the proposed development for $1.57 million.

Shoshone-Paiute Tribe is considering opening a gambling-friendly venue 100 miles north of its Duck Valley Reservation home. The tribe's Chairman, Brian Mason, claims that the tribe should be given preference over the Shoshon-Bannock tribe because most of the members of both tribes do their shopping in Mountain Home.
