Catawba Two Kings Casino Resort lawsuit accelerated
The Catawba Indian Nation wants to build a $273 million casino resort in North Carolina. The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians is against the plan. It runs North Carolin's only two casinos, Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort and Harrares Cherokee Valley River Casino and Hotel.
Catawba Two Kings Casino Resort lawsuit accelerated. Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians filed a lawsuit with the United States District Court for the District of Columbia on March 17. The suit is an attempt to overturn the earlier land-into-trust decision regarding the Cleveland County plot for a proposed casino resort.
The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians is suing the federal government for granting permission to build a casino resort. The developer of the project, Wallace Cheves, is accused of using his political connections to get the land-into-trust decision.
Richard Sneed, Principal Chief for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, asked for a lawsuit to be expedited as the Catawba Indian Nation has already begun construction and could open a temporary casino as early as May or June 2021.
Catawba Two Kings Casino Resort lawsuit was accelerated. All parties involved in the lawsuit have to submit their final legal documents in advance of a January 18 deadline. The matter could be heard as soon as February.
