A Brampton husband and father has just won a life changing $5 million and change as the first-ever winner of the new Lotto 6/49 Classic jackpot.

Daljit Sidhu said he is a regular when it comes to playing Lotto 6/49, and was driving with his wife when he asked her to check the September

“She told me I won $5,000, so I pulled over to look for myself,” Sidhu said while picking up his prize at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto. “I was happy to hear I won $5,000 – but when we realised it was $5 million, we were surprised and excited. We looked at each other with tears in our eyes.”

He also won $2.00 on his Encore selection, bringing the  total winnings to $5,000,002.

Despite being surprised by the huge win, Sidhu said his wife had a sense something big was coming.

“She had a dream about a lot of money the night before the LOTTO 6/49 draw,” he said.

Sidhu and his wife couldn’t wait to go home and share the good news with their children.

“Those first few nights after discovering the win, we were all sleepless,” Sidhu said.

The family is still processing the incredible windfall, and Sidhu said he plans to buy a new car and a home for his family, and make some investments.

“I will also put some money away for my children’s education and I want to do what I can for those less fortunate in my community,” he said. “I feel so blessed. I had goosebumps when I got that $5 million cheque.”
