An Iconic Las Vegas Casino is Reopening Off the Strip
Las Vegas has been built around iconic names and brands. Caesars Entertainment will bring the Horseshoe name back to the Las Vegas Strip for the first time later this year. The volcano at The Mirage will meet its demise later later in the year to make way for a Hard Rock Guitar Hotel. The Hard R Rock is reopening just in time for one of Sin City's biggest weekends: the NFL Draft.
The Palms casino and hotel closed during the pandemic. It was bought by The San Manuel Gaming and Hospitality Authority, an affiliate of the San Francisco Band of Mission Indians in December 2021. The Palm will reopen on April 27, just before the NFL Draft. It's just up the block from where the draft is being held. "It's more challenging to open when it's busy," says the general manager Cynthia Kiser Murphey. She believes the most important thing for them was to get people back to work.
The pandemic is less of a concern for Caesars and MGM. Caeres and GMI suffered during the pand epidemic because they had a lot of exposure in Las Vegas. The Palms is making its grand return. The forward hotel book is starting to outpace 2019 levels. Bill Hornbuckle is optimistic about the future. He expects COVID restrictions to be loosened in the near future, as other states have seen.
