LANSING, MI -- A pair of lottery players who have been part of a Lottery Club for years brought home a $1.2 million Lotto 47 jackpot recently.

“We have been playing Lotto 47 for years and always play easy pick numbers,” said the club’s representative. “I looked up the winning numbers online after the drawing and checked them off one by one on the ticket. When I saw we’d matched all of them to win the jackpot, I was in complete shock. I never thought we would actually win big!”

The duo matched all six numbers drawn -- 12-14-24-33-39-44 -- for the drawing held on May 7. The winning ticket was purchased at the Sunrise Store, located at 6078 North Clare Avenue in Harrison.

“Winning is totally amazing! We have played for years and can’t believe it finally paid off,” said the club representative.

The two winners visited Lottery headquarters in Lansing recently to claim their prize. They elected to receive the money as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $832,000 rather than the annuity. With their winnings, they plan on finishing some renovations and traveling.

The last players from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot is the Wolverine FLL lottery club which claimed a $1.05 billion jackpot in March 2021. With their winnings, the group plans to give back to the community.

And while they were lucky winners, it’s smart for players to check their tickets immediately as a winner worth $1 million sold in Warren last year went unclaimed. The money instead went to the state’s School Aid Fund.
