$1 million ‘Mega Millions’ lottery prize won from liquor store in Mass.
One lucky lottery player is several hundreds of thousands of dollars richer after scoring the second-highest prize in “Mega Millions” on Friday from a ticket bought at a liquor store in Massachusetts.
The $1 million ticket was sold at Long Ridge Wine & Spirits in Plymouth, a family-owned fine wine, craft beer and boutique spirits shop. There were two other “Mega Millions” winners at that prize level Friday, including one in New York and another in Texas.
To play “Mega Millions,” participants must pay $2 and select, either manually or randomly through the lottery computer system, five numbers between one and 70 as well as one Mega Ball number between one and 25. Drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m.
To win the jackpot, players need to match all five of their numbers plus the Mega Ball number to the winning numbers drawn, and to win the $1 million prize, players need to match just their five numbers. If nobody wins the top prize, the money is added to the jackpot for the next drawing.
The winning numbers drawn Friday were 12, 47, 49, 52 and 65 plus Mega Ball 12. No one won the jackpot, so the estimated top prize grew to $377 million, which amounts to a cash payout of $175.4 million, ahead of Tuesday’s drawing.
The Massachusetts State Lottery publishes a list online every day of all the winning tickets sold in the state worth more than $600. Overall, there were 537 winning lottery tickets worth at least $600 sold or claimed in the commonwealth Friday, including eight in Springfield, 26 in Worcester and 48 in Boston.
The winner of the $1 million was not the only lucky ticket-holder in the Bay State this week. Three $100,000 prizes were won or claimed in Massachusetts on Thursday. A lucky two-time grand prize winner of the State Lottery won the $25 million prize in the “Billion Dollar Extravaganza” $50 instant game, claiming her award Wednesday. Another player claimed the same $25 million prize through a trust Wednesday as well.
The biggest lottery prizes won in Massachusetts so far this year were the $33 million and $31 million “Mega Millions” jackpots, which were won a week apart from each another in January.
The $31 million ticket was bought at a Gibbs gas station in Woburn. The jackpot was won during the Tuesday, Jan. 3 drawing, and on March 8, the winner claimed their prize through the S & L Trust.
The $33 million ticket was bought at a Stop & Shop in Belchertown. The jackpot was won during the Tuesday, Jan. 24 drawing, and on March 1, The winner claimed their prize through the Skylark Group Trust.
