The name of the proposed $325 million casino resort in Louisiana City of Slidell will be Camellia Bay. It is a reference to the city's nickname, Camella City. More than 7,000 people suggested the name. Kimberly Frady, a nurse at the Slidella Memorial Hospital Cancer Center, came up with the winning name and was presented with a $5,00 check for it.

Voters will decide on November 13 whether to host a casino in Slidell. The project is called Camellia Bay Resort and will cost $325 million. It will be located on 50 acres of land at Interstate 10’s Exit 261 along Lake Pontchartrain. The proposal has attracted strong opposition from local religious groups. State lawmakers supported the idea and passed a measure authorizing the local vote in the Legislature.
