Sky Vegas Offered Free Spins to Self-Excluded Gamblers
Sky Vegas is under investigation by the UK Gambling Commission. UKGC is investigating Sky Vegas over allegations it offered free spins to gambling addicts.
Sky Vegas sent promotional messages to gamblers who had self-excluded and people who opted out of receiving marketing communications. One of the emails had a subject line asking the recipient to take a look inside to see the mystery bonus.
Problem gambling is a major issue in the UK. There are 218,000 people who are part of the GamStop mass self-exclusion scheme. Sky Betting and Gaming received a fine for advertising to self excluded gamblers in 2018.
Sky Vegas is under investigation. Former Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith called it "utterly shocking". Flutter Entertainment CEO Peter Jackson hopes to prevent any drastic legislative changes by introducing its own measures. Flutters has already added a monthly net deposit cap of £500 ($682) for all UK and Ireland customers younger than 25 years old.
