More Flutter Trouble as Sky Vegas Targeted Gambling Addicts
Flutter Entertainment-owned online gaming brand Sky Vegas is in hot regulatory waters after several UK customers who had self-excluded themselves from gambling reported to have been targeted with free spin offers by the brand.
Sky Vegas sent promotional messages offering 100 free spins as a bonus against £5 spend to people who opted out of direct marketing. The people targeted are recovering gambling addicts and people self-excluded from online gaming and betting websites. Sky Betting and Gaming was fined $1.365 million by the Gambling Commission in 2018 for breaching its obligations to keep self excluded people out from its promotional marketing communications.
Sky Vegas apologises to those who mistakenly received Sky Vegas promotional communications.
Gambling Commission will investigate Sky Betting and Gaming's breach of licensing conditions. Iain Duncan Smith called the incident "utterly shocking" and questioned the industry's ability to self-regulate. There are more than 218,000 Gamstop members. They are supposed to be removed from marketing communications.
