JOHOR BARU: Police here have arrested seven men in a raid on an online gambling call centre in Senibong on Monday (Dec 14).

Johor Baru (South) OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Padzli Mohd Zain said that the raid was carried out based on information received, adding that the call centre was based in a converted apartment.

He said all suspects arrested were aged between 18 and 22.

ACP Mohd Padzli added that police also seized the apartment unit's access card, 15 mobile phones, seven laptops, seven mice, four wifi modems, 11 sim cards of a Singapore telecommunication company, two notebooks, three tables and seven chairs.

He added that the items were used by the seven suspects to carry out betting and online gambling promotion activities using a website.

“Investigations showed that the online gambling activities operate for 12 hours per day, from 10am until 10pm.

“The suspects are paid a salary of RM2,000 per month and will also get a commission based upon profits coming from gambling, ” he said on Wednesday (Dec 16).

ACP Mohd Padzli also said checks on the suspects found they do not have any prior records and added that all seven have been remanded to assist with the investigation under Section 4(1)(g) of the Open House Gambling Act 1953.
