Cops raid illegal gambling call centre, arrest two men
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested two men believed to be involved in the operation of an illegal online gambling call centre here.
Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai said a police team raided a condominium unit at Jalan Metro Perdana Barat at around 3.30pm on Sunday (Oct 30).
"We received information that the unit was being used for illegal gambling activities prior to the raid. We arrested two men aged 28 and 30 who were allegedly involved in organising online gambling activities," he said in a statement on Monday (Oct 31).
He said police seized four computers, four mobile phones, a modem, and 10 prepaid telephone cards.
"Our investigation revealed the unit was operating for at least a month and was paying RM1,500 rent. We believe they chose to operate from a condominium unit to avoid police detection," he said
ACP Beh added that both suspects have been remanded for three days to assist the investigation.
He urged the public to refrain from taking part in illegal gambling activities or risk facing stern action from the police.
"We will take action based on all available laws if we find anyone breaking the law," he said urging those with information on the case to contact the Sentul police operations centre at 03-4048 2206.
