Penn National Completes U-Turn With Opening Of Its York Mini-Casino
Penn National Gaming will open its first mini-casino in York County on Thursday. PNG filed a federal lawsuit three years ago to block the creation of mini casinos in Pennsylvania. The company withdrew the suit and is focusing on development of two projects in the York and Berks counties. Hollywood Casino York is a $120 million investment at York Galleria Mall. It will be PNG's second mini casino in PA after Live! Pittsburgh. The Live!, Pittsburgh property opened last November in Westmoreland County.
Penn National opened a mini-casino in York. The company's original approach was to put up a casino in the area to defend its turf at Penn National Race Course in Grantville. Now it's looking at mini casinos as a hub-and-spoke model. Live! Pittsburgh is on track to bring in about $100 million in annual gaming revenue this year. It's not known what the revenue will be like in Yorks County. There's a growing population in south-central Pennsylvania.
Penn National completed the opening of its York Mini-Casino. The casino will be located in the York Galleria mall. It will have 510 slot machines, 24 table games, a Barstool-branded sportsbook and OTB race book, Diner & Drinks sit-down restaurant, and a Classic Grill grab-and-go eatery. There will not be as many slot machine as the 750 allowed, because of the small size of it. A 15% smoking area is restricted to the gaming floor. It is possible Penn National could eventually lease the vacant space above the casino.
Penn National has been providing its casinos in legalized sports betting states with Barstool-branded sportsbooks. Penn National’s online/mobile sportsbook also bears the BarStool brand. The company also offers cashless gaming at its Grantville main casino and at Meadows Racetrack & Casino. The new York mini-casino is opening. It will be open for business by the end of the month. There will also be a section for educating patrons how to use the casheless technology. They can transfer money from their bank cards or accounts into a digital wallet and then scan the phone at slot machines and table games to transfer gambling funds in and out.
