Penn National Gaming celebrated the grand opening of its $120 million Hollywood Casino York on Thursday. The 80,000 sq ft mini-casino is located in Springettsbury Township at the western end of the Galleria Mall in a space formerly occupied by a Sears department store.
Penn’s third gaming and entertainment venue has approximately 38,000 square feet of gaming. It features more than 500 reel, progressive, video slots and video poker machines. The facility is also home to the state's first retail Barstool Sportsbook, which features a massive 9-foot by 32-ft-wide video wall.
Hollywood Casino York has introduced a new cashless system. Patrons can use their smartphones to conduct cash transactions at table games and slot machines. George praises the new technology as a revolutionary enhancement for the industry.
Hollywood Casino York offers guests casual and quick eats dining options via Dinner & Drinks and Classic Grille. About 290 people are employed by the gaming and entertainment facility.
Mountainview Thoroughbred Racing Association, LLC, a subsidiary of Penn National Gaming, was granted a license to construct the satellite or Category 4’ casino in Springettsbury Township in December 2019. The company won a $50.1 million bid via auction in January 2018.
Penn National’s Hollywood Casino York and The Cordish Companies‘ Live! Casino Pittsburgh are the only two potential sites that have come to fruition.
Penn National plans to open a second mini-casino, Hollywood Casino Morgantown, later this year. Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment Inc. operates Parx Casino in Bensalem and is awaiting license approval for its own mini casino project, ParX Casino Shippensburg. Public hearing for a fifth mini casinos project in College Township is scheduled for August 16, 2021.
