Penn National to hire about 375 people at new $111M casino along Pa. Turnpike
Penn National Gaming will open its closest casino to its headquarters in the Reading area by the end of the year.
Hollywood Casino Morgantown will open at the Morgantown exit, exit 298 along the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Caernarvon Township, Berks County.
The $111 million, 80,000-square-foot casino will feature approximately 750 slot machines and 30 tables games, a Barstool Sportsbook and race book, and food and beverage options.
Penn National owns casinos across the county but this will be its first casino in its home county. The casino is considered a mini-casino, called a Category 4 casino. Mini casinos became legalized in Pennsylvania in 2017
And one sign that plans are moving along for the new casino is that Penn National Gaming announced on Thursday that it has opened a career center at the Holiday Inn Morgantown at 6170 Morgantown Road in Caernarvon Township near Morgantown.
The career center at the Holiday Inn Morgantown will be open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday with operating hours expected to expand in the near future. Full and part-time opportunities are available. Positions will also be available in casino operations, food and beverage, security and surveillance, human resources, marketing and other areas. The casino is offering sign-on bonuses up to $1,500.
Penn National also plans to host Table Games Dealer School open house hiring events at the career center. The events are scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon, Friday; 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday; and 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday. Table Games Dealer School is expected to start in late September and is free of charge to new hires.
Hollywood Casino Morgantown expects to hire around 375 people at the new mini-casino.
Job applicants can apply in person at the career center or online at www.pngaming.com/careers by clicking “Search All Jobs” and selecting “Hollywood Casino Morgantown” in the property listing drop down box.
“We are thrilled to begin accepting applications for our newest property from residents of Berks, Lancaster, and Montgomery counties, and other neighboring communities,” Erin Chamberlin, senior vice president of regional operations for Penn National said in a news release.
Penn National Gaming also owns Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course in East Hanover Township and the state’s newest casino, Hollywood Casino York at the York Galleria Mall in Springettsbury Township, which opened on Aug. 12. That casino has 510 slot machines and 24 table games (with room to expand), a 125-seat restaurant, bars, 125 televisions, the state’s first Barstool Sportsbook, a giant video wall, cashless technology, and a smoking section that makes up more than 15 percent of the casino. That casino employs about 290 people.
Pennsylvania currently has 15 casinos and ten are located in the eastern part of the state and five are located in western Pennsylvania.
