HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The two biggest tribal-owned casinos in the United States, Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun, have launched websites with online versions of casino games.

Officials from the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the Mohegan Tribe say they want to be prepared in case Internet gambling is legalized at the federal level or in their home state of Connecticut.

While prospects for changes to the law remain uncertain, the casinos have found the sites offer value as marketing tools for the giant resorts and sources of market data through user registrations.

Mashantucket chairman Rodney Butler says about 50,000 users have set up accounts on the “online casino” that Foxwoods launched in January through a partnership with GameAccount Network.

But at least for right now, the users can’t wager money.
