Foxwoods to build $85 million casino at Mashantucket site
Foxwoods Resort Casino has said it will build an $85 million casino at its Mashantucket site, its first significant gambling expansion in 14 years.
The new casino will feature 50,000 square feet of gambling space to include table games and slot machines, a 13,000 square foot celebrity chef restaurant and a high-limit slot area.
The casino will be in the Grand Ballroom.
Construction is expected to start in November and the casino is set to open next summer.
The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation said its last Foxwoods expansion was the opening of its second tower, Fox Tower, in 2008, featuring more than 800 hotel rooms, a casino, theater and nightclub.
Online betting and sports wagers, which were established in Connecticut last year, have generated millions of dollars in revenue for Foxwoods and the Mohegan Sun. The revenue is needed as the casinos struggle with inflation, worker shortages and other problems.
