Mystery EuroMillions lottery winner loses out on £1million fortune as deadline passes

A lottery winner has lost out on a £1million fortune after failing to claim their prize.
Players of EuroMillions UK Millionaire Maker had been urged to go back and double-check their ticket slips to find the winner.
The ticket with the code VSHS38986 was bought in Lewisham, south east London, before the draw on January 29.
However, the six-month deadline to claim the prize expired at midnight last night (28 July), The Sun reports.
Camelot’s Andy Carter, Senior Winners’ Advisor at The National Lottery had urged the mystery winner to come forward.
Prior to the deadline expiring he said: “This life-changing prize could really help to make dreams become a reality for someone out there."
However, today he confirmed that the sum had not been claimed and the person had “sadly missed out on this substantial amount of money”.
The money will now be added to the £36million raised on average every week for National Lottery-funded projects across the UK.
Mr Carter has encouraged people to check their tickets online at national-lottery.co.uk or by downloading the National Lottery app.
When you play online via the website or app your ticket is checked and you receive an email notification if you win a prize, he added.
You can also scan the ticket by the app to see if you have won.
The biggest UK EuroMillions prize of £170m was won in October 2019, however, the winner decided to remain anonymous.
But there are others who have been widely reported on as their fortuned radically changed their lives.
Colin and Chris Weir won £161million on the EuroMillions in 2011, making them the second biggest winners.
The third biggest jackpot was won by Adrian and Gillian Bayford who took home £148.6 million in 2012.
In June, shopkeeper Mehmet Ozer revealed he really had the Midas touch when it emerged he had won the Lotto for the third time in 10 years pocketing more than £600,000.
Months earlier, in April, one lucky person in the UK won the £59million jackpot with EuroMillions.
Lottery winners can sign an agreement consenting to full publicity if they want to release information about themselves, or they can opt to remain anonymous.
