Want to know about Mega Millions? Here are answers to common questions about the game.

Playing Mega Millions is easy. It’s a classic draw game, which means players pick numbers and hope their selections match the numbers pulled during drawings.

For Mega Millions, you select five white ball numbers between 1 and 70 (no repeats) and a single gold Mega Ball number between 1 and 25. Matching all five white balls and the Mega Ball wins you the jackpot. Tickets cost $2 per entry.

For an extra $1 per entry, you can add Megaplier to your Mega Millions tickets. Megaplier multiplies any non-jackpot winnings by 2x, 3x, 4x, or 5x depending on which Megaplier ball is drawn.

Mega Millions drawings take place on Tuesdays and Fridays at 11 p.m. ET. Drawings are broadcast live on many local news networks. You can also check for winning numbers after the fact.

The deadline to purchase tickets for a given drawing is 15 minutes before the drawing occurs.

The minimum age to play online lottery games in Michigan is 18. If you win, you’ll be required to present proof of your age in the form of a government-issued ID.

Mega Millions and Powerball are very similar. They’re both lottery draw games offered in 45 states and a few other US jurisdictions.

The Mega Millions game has you pick white ball numbers between 1 and 70 plus a gold Mega Ball between 1 and 25.

Powerball, meanwhile, has you pick white ball numbers between 1 and 69 plus a single red Powerball between 1 and 26.

Mega Millions drawings take place on Tuesdays and Fridays, while Powerball drawings occur on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

The jackpots for these games rise until they are won. The cost to enter each one is the same, and the rules are only slightly different. If you like playing one, chances are you’ll like the other.

Michigan allows you to buy lottery tickets online or in a retail location.

Online is the easiest and fastest way to participate. If you —MLIVE—you’ll even get a welcome bonus worth up to $100 in credit.

Retail locations that sell Mega Millions tickets include grocery stores and gas stations. Ask the vendor for a play slip, then fill out your numbers and return it to the register. They will print your tickets.

The first Mega Millions drawing took place in 2002. It started in six states and has since expanded to be available in 45 states, Washington DC, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Jackpot winners for Mega Millions have two choices: lump-sum payment or an annuity paid over 30 years.

The lump-sum amount is significantly less than the jackpot advertised, but the benefit is obvious: you get the money right away. The annuity is paid over 30 years with 5% increases each year.
