Gateway Casinos holds grand opening of its $74M Cascades Casino Delta property in BC
Gateway Casinos & Entertainment announced Thursday the official opening of the CAD 99.3 million ($74.5 million) casino Cascades Casino Delta, in British Columbia. The new gambling property features 500 slots, 18 table games, as well as signature restaurants MATCH Eatery & Public House.
Gateway’s Chief Operating Officer, Rob Ward, expressed his pride in the project reaching the goal line. “Despite the challenges of the pandemic over the last two and a half years, we finally reached our destination," he stated.
He described the new casino as a “testimony to the resiliency and determination of a great many people who kept their focus and worked hard together to create a state-of-the-art entertainment destination for the City of Delta.”
The latest property to be unveiled by Gateway features their proprietary casino and restaurant brands, said the company. The Cascades brand is built around the design inspiration of “Play”, following the line of its other properties in North Bay and Chatham (ON) and Langley, Kamloops and Penticton (BC).
Aside from its signature restaurant brands, the facility also has a new 5,000-square feet ballroom that converts into three separate conference spaces; and a buffet that provides "a unique combination of excellent food at value pricing, with an entertaining and family friendly atmosphere."
BCLC Board Chair Greg Moore said: “BCLC is delighted to open the brand new Cascades Casino Delta in collaboration with our partners at Gateway. Offering an innovative gaming experience and access to industry-leading player health resources, the casino will provide excellent entertainment for our players to enjoy safely.”
Moore stated that the casino will provide “significant economic benefits to the community,” such as new jobs and support for local initiatives and provincial programs through the revenue it generates.
City of Delta’s Mayor George V. Harvie congratulated Gateway Casinos on the opening of the property and stated that the company’s investment has “created hundreds of new jobs that support the growth in our local economy and tourism.” Meanwhile, Ian Paton, MLA for Delta South, pointed out that with this investment, the brand demonstrated “a commitment to growing Delta’s tourism sector for years to come.”
As part of the opening ceremonies was the recognition of the Delta Community Foundation as the official beneficiary of the GatewayGives charitable donations program. Charities are selected locally by employees of Gateway in the communities where they operate.
Starting Thursday through October 31, a portion of the casino’s food and beverage sales in MATCH will be donated to the foundation. In addition, to celebrate the grand opening, there will be a full weekend of promotions, giveaways, entertainment and more.
In November 2018, the British Columbia Lottery Corporation gave final approval for the construction of the casino, built on the former site of Delta Town & Country Inn. At the time, the construction timeline projected an opening of mid-2020.
