Delaware’s set a state record. That mark didn’t last long.

The First State reset its mark for online casino revenue for the second month in a row in August, taking in $1,296,973 last month.

That new record was a 3.5% increase from the $1.25 million in July. That July total had broken the previous standard of $1.22 million set in April.

The August iGaming handle was $36,826,483, the fourth-best total all-time for the state. That mark bumped the June Delaware casino handle of $34.96 million out of the top five. Last month’s handle was down 6.5% from July (nearly $39.4 million), which also set a state record.

The top five Delaware iGaming handles have all come in the past nine months. As far as revenue, the top three figures are all from 2022; May 2020 ($1.13 million) still stands fourth, according to figures reported by the Delaware Lottery.

Delaware One of Six Online Casino States

Delaware is one of six states with the options. The others are Pennsylvania, Michigan, Connecticut, New Jersey and West Virginia.

Other states are at least considering adding iGaming, or have powerful advocates pushing for the added revenue source. Those states include New York, Illinois, Indiana and Iowa.

In larger markets, mobile gaming apps bring in tens of millions of dollars in revenue each month. Delaware, of course, wouldn’t expect such a windfall considering its population of barely over a million.

Still, in The First State have been a boon and the pattern of revenue shows that the revenue stream is clearly growing. A $30 million month for iGaming handle and $1 million a month in revenue was a dream not long ago in Delaware; now those numbers are routine.

Delaware Sports Betting Revenue Up Sharply

The total sports betting revenue for August was $545,877, up 42.5% from July’s $383,249. That was the second straight month with an increase, but in a state with no mobile sports betting, the revenue figure has not surpassed $1 million since January.
