This Week in Gambling: Gambling news from London
As we reported on our gambling news and online poker news video from 29 March, The Rise of Interstate Poker Compacts in America, the shared liquidity agreement between Nevada, New Jersey, and Delaware has now grown to include the state of Michigan. This is just the first step of expansion that industry insiders believe will also include Pennsylvania and possibly West Virginia, for starters. Of course, Michigan’s participation in the Interstate Poker agreement is still dependent on the execution of the Agreement by the state. This seems like a formality, however, and they will undoubtedly become the fourth member. It’s also worth noting that while this agreement clearly benefits online poker the most, it is not exclusive to poker. In fact, the specific wording of the announcement was that the purpose of shared liquidity was to benefit players who participate in ‘legal forms of internet gaming’ which seems to include games beyond poker.
Esports Entertainment Group has announced the successfully completion of the ‘soft play’ phase of their New Jersey esports launch. Their VIE.gg platform now allows registered bettors in the state to bet on approved professional esports events. They are the first operator to be granted the right to launch full New Jersey esports betting. Players can wager on their favorite esports teams in real-time as part of a seamless and immersive experience. Players are able to leverage their esports skills across games such as Call of Duty, Overwatch, CS:GO, League of Legends and DOTA 2. Grant Johnson, CEO of Esports Entertainment, said “As the first licensed esports-focused betting site in North America, we’re thrilled to fully launch the VIE.gg platform in New Jersey, one of the largest and most promising jurisdictions for sports wagering in the country."
