Spalding: Merkur slots wins planning appeal for adult gaming centre in Hall Place
A gambling firm has won its bid to open an gaming centre in Spalding town centre.
Merkur Slots appealed against South Holland District Council's rejection of its change of use application to open a gaming centre in the former Dorothy Perkins site in Hall Place.
However, the Planning Inspectorate has now granted the firm's appeal - and approved planning permission for the application despite the strong opposition from the town and its politicians.
The appeal decision states: "Although I appreciate that there has been a high level of interest in the proposal, it is not within my remit to take the concerns so raised into account."
It goes onto say: "The proposal would accord with the development plan as a whole. There are no material considerations that indicate the application should be determined other than in accordance with the development plan. Therefore, the proposal is allowed, and planning permission granted subject to the attached conditions."
While the change of use application has been approved, the inspectorate has thrown out the new signage which would 'harm the character and appearance of the area'.
