Gambling company Merkur Slots is making a fresh bid to open up in Spalding's former Dorothy Perkins store.

A South Holland District Council licensing panel hearing next Tuesday (November 30) is due to rule on whether the firm can have a 'bingo premises licence' for the empty Hall Place store.

Merkur has previously been refused planning permission for a change of use for the building to a 24/7 adult gaming centre after a groundswell of opposition - although it is now appealing that decision.

The licensing matter is a fresh application and is treated separately from the planning application.

Bingo premises licenses allow venues to include some gaming machines too.
