Six nabbed for gambling in Tapah house raid

IPOH: Six suspects gambling at a house in Tapah were arrested by the police.

Tapah OCPD Supt Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said police received a tip-off from the public on the gambling activities at about 10am on Saturday (June 26).

He said a raid was conducted by the police at a house in Taman Tapah Indah.

“During the raid, a total of six men, aged between 38 and 56, were caught playing poker when the arrest was made.

“A pack of cards, and cash worth RM1,774 were confiscated.

“The group had also failed to comply with the current rules under the lockdown,” he added.

Supt Wan Azharuddin said they were remanded for a day until Sunday (June 27), and are currently out on police bail.

“I am warning the community to always follow the laws currently imposed due to the pandemic.

“Those who defy the orders, stern action will be taken against them,” he said.

The six would be investigated under Section 7(2) of the Common Gambling House Act 1953.

They would also be investigated under Rule 17(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2021.
