RVA’s Casino Race: Cordish Companies discusses casino proposal, community concerns one-on-one with 8News
Cordish Companies and Urban One are the only two contenders left in the race for a casino in Richmond. The Pamunkey Indian Tribe, Golden Nugget Hotels & Casinos, Wind Creek Hospitality and Bally's were eliminated in March and April respectively. By the end of May, the Resort Casino Evaluation Panel is expected to make its recommendation to Mayor Levar Stoney on which operator and location is best fit for the city.

By the end of May, the Resort Casino Evaluation Panel is expected to make its recommendation to Mayor Levar Stoney. Live! Casino & Hotel Richmond would be built on the site of Movieland Theater. It would offer a 4,000-seat performance venue, 18 restaurants, a spa, 300-room hotel, thousands of slots and table games.
The Greater Scott’s Addition Boulevard Association voted not to oppose the project 10-9. Movieland theater has been reincorporated into the development. The company has increased the number of parking spaces in their free parking deck from 3,000 to 4,00. Smith is asking people to consider their community outreach, experience with operating casino resorts, and Richmond”s needs before deciding. The Cordish Companies have had a long history of public service within many administrations. David Cordist served on the Carter Administration and worked on urban development, while Reed Cordis worked for the Trump administration on prison reform.
