Evaluation Panel recommends ONE Casino + Resort for southside Richmond; Mayor Stoney supports decision
Richmond’s Resort Casino Evaluation Panel has recommended the ONE Casino + Resort plans to move forward as the city's casino gaming operator. The proposed site is located on Walmsley Boulevard in South Richmond. Mayor Levar Stoney says the project will create over 1,000 good-paying jobs and generate a significant amount of new revenue for the City.
Mayor Stoney will introduce the proposed ONE Casino + Resort project to City Council on May 24. The proposal is in partnership with Peninsula Pacific Entertainment, which owns and operates several casinos and Rosie’s Gaming Emporiums in the state of Virginia. Richmond 9th District City Councillor Michael Jones supports the project. The company Urban One is Black-owned and has invested in African American culture and communities for decades. It is only fitting they get the opportunity to raise the aesthetic to an impoverished area. Virginia General Assembly approved a law that will result in a referendum on casino gaming in Richmond during the upcoming November election.
