Memo was sent to Dutch online gambling companies. It was revealed last week following a freedom of information request. The memo was dated 28 October 2021. It came four weeks after the Dutch internet gambling market launched. Before the launch of regulated online betting, some operators made money from the Netherlands that should have been subject to tax, but they didn't pay.

Gambling companies based in Malta or Curaçao transferred tens of millions of euros from the Netherlands without paying tax. The total amount involved may be upwards of €200m. Several new cases have been detected recently. 12 Dutch online gambling companies have come into the picture. Tax investigations are currently being conducted into 5 of them.

Toto Online was fined €400,000 (£343,793/$415,307) for targeting advertising at young adults in the country. Minister for Legal Protection Franc Weerwind spoke out last week in support of payment providers following criticism from some MPs about delays with customer withdrawals.
