Nevada Adds 10,200 Jobs in May Amid Casino Hiring Drive
Nevada added 10,200 new jobs last month. The leisure and hospitality industry contributed the most jobs. Nevada's unemployment rate is 7.8%. The state's economy is recovering after a year of COVID-19 closures and health and safety restrictions.
Nevada's gaming industry has returned to full capacity since June 1. Las Vegas casinos are hiring to cope with the increase in demand. MGM Resorts International hired 100 people on the spot in April. Hotel-casinos such as Circus Circus Hotel and Casino, Ellis Island Hotel, and Virgin Hotels Las Las have also committed to hiring new staff throughout April and recently. STRAT hotel-casaino and Station Casinos hosted recruitment events last week. Clark County officials are planning to host a summer fair featuring more than 100 employers in July.
Nevada casino operators saw more than $1bn in revenue for the month of April. The state’s slot machines generated the highest revenue in the state's history at $793.7m. Downtown Las Vegas also hit an all-time monthly win record of $76.2m, a rise of 23% from 2019.
